NAVER CLOVA’s AI Speaker — What’s the technology inside?

Today, we would like to introduce CLOVA voice recognition technology. Do you have one of these cute AI speakers? Well, we’d like to take the time to delve into NAVER Cloud Platform’s core technologies in the CLOVA AI speaker: CLOVA Speech Recognition (CSR) and CLOVA Speech Synthesis (CSS).
CSR is a voice recognition API service that lets you create services such as a secretary application, chatbot and voice memo, which need to recognize and interpret human speech.

With NAVER’s technology that has been built from the knowledge and data that’s been accumulated over the years, this technology holds an excellent voice recognition rate for Korean speech. CSR is about “listening” because it recognizes human speech. But, what about “speaking” you ask?

When users enter text through CSS, the speaker is able to read the text and play it out loud naturally, based on the voice actors’ voices, making it perfect for services such as audio guide systems, news, and books. For example, Wongjin Book Club, a company that has been enjoying remarkable success with these solutions, has adopted CSR and CSS into Book Club Friends, their interactive book service that reads books to children and talks with them.
