Korea’s representative developer conference DEVIEW, where the latest IT technologies and trends are shared and the attention of developers in various areas is focused.
DEVIEW 2023 was held at COEX in Gangnam, Seoul, on February 27–28. The offline resumption of the event after 4 years was met with enthusiasm from more than 3,500 participants.

The start where AI becomes everyone’s competitive edge, Team NAVER
NAVER Cloud’s CEO, Kim, You-won, explained Team NAVER’s vision with 4 keywords.
“HyperCLOVA X, infrastructure, SaaS evolution, and sovereign cloud.”
His presentation started with the changes that AI and cloud’s synergy will bring. He mentioned that hyperscale AIs such as the much-talked-about ChatGPT are changing the paradigm of technology, and declared that he will drive NAVER Cloud’s jump as a hyperscale technology company that leads AI transformation through the synergy between the hyperscale AI technology and SaaS business.
In addition, he made a surprise announcement that “HyperCLOVA X,” a hyperscale AI that can be optimized to each customer’s purposes, will be launched in July. The plan is to create a hyperscale AI ecosystem in Korea, which can be used by anyone and is competitive at the global level.
Competitive edge of HyperCLOVA X
Seong, Nak-ho, Hyperscale AI technology lead at NAVER Cloud, introduced HyperCLOVA X, which is NAVER’s search GPT. HyperCLOVA X is a language model that learned 6,500 times more Korean than ChatGPT, and it is designed to have performance that meets Korean users’ needs. He stressed that it is an advanced model through which you can create “your own hyperscale AI product” that increases productivity, even when combined with just a small amount of data.
He also presented a demo version of HyperCLOVA X. How it can be used including reading, writing, coding, searching, summarizing, consulting, recommendation, and planning was shared through the screen. He claimed that by combining AI models with areas of daily life, such as through NAVER browser, will bring us closer to a new reality where users and AIs could work together.
Hyperscale data center X AI semiconductor
Gwak, Yong-jae, CTO at NAVER Cloud, introduced 2 solutions that NAVER has prepared for building AI services.
[AI semiconductor solution] He revealed that NAVER Cloud is creating semiconductors for AI in collaboration with Samsung Electronics. It is supposed to be a lightweight solution with 1 tenth of the size and more than 4 times better energy efficiency compared to existing GPUs, but it has all features required for computation, learning, and inference of a Large Language Model(LLM).
​[Data center GAK Sejeong] The second data center, “GAK Sejong” is established so that AI services can be run and analyzed stably. “GAK Sejong,” planned to be open in the second half of this year, can hold 60 million units (equals 91 soccer stadiums) of servers. In addition to a stable power supply system, it’s said to have the capacity to respond flexibly to outside circumstances with the independently developed cooling technology. This data center with an efficient cloud environment is expected to run AI semiconductor solutions that are 4 times as large as current GPUs.
NAVER Search X HyperCLOVA X
Kim, Yong-beom, Chief Scientist at NAVER Search US, introduced “SearchGPT,” NAVER’s next-generation search technology project.
“SearchGPT project” uses “OCEAN,” a large language model born by specially adapting HyperCLOVA to NAVER Search, as its backbone. It is a technology that models user search flow data accumulated over 20 years at NAVER to guide users on the optimal path to achieve their search purpose. It has an improved understanding of their search intentions and results, as well as creates answers with an emphasis on reliability.
The announced plan will be to provide differentiated and diverse search experiences through the synergy between search-hyperscale AI-services with a focus on reliability, connectivity, and multi-modal.
Opening with the news of NAVER’s own SearchGPT’s launch, “DEVIEW 2023” successfully ended after hosting 46 sessions and various exhibitor booths.
